NOTE: Alice In Chains/Mad Season lead singer Layne Staley passed away 12 years ago today. Staley died of a drug overdose, with his former (and now also deceased) bandmate Mike Starr being the last person to see him alive. While Staley had a grim death and his struggles with addiction should be a cautionary tale, he should also be remembered for his iconic voice. Layne had a way with verbalizing pain, both melodically and lyrically. He could sound manic at times on tracks like "Sick Man," and poetic on songs like "River of Deceit." (from Alternative Nation)
