Babes In Toyland - Live @ 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, USA, 25-02-1988

NOTE: Minneapolis maidens Kat Bjelland, Lori Barbero, and Michelle Leon united in 1987 to create what became one of the most revered female rock bands of all time.

This bootleg is Babes In Toyland first gig at the Entry - a rock and alternative rock music venue in downtown Minneapolis - with Dinosaur - before they were called Dinosaur Jr. - in 1988.

Band member Barbero's fond First Ave memories are legion - including stage-diving during a Nirvana show and winning money at disco dance competitions in high school. Most vividly, she recalls the jitters before Babes' first show in the Entry. "I was doing sound check and in the monitor and I hear, 'Okay, kick drum,'" she remembers. "I knew what that was because it's obviously the one you kick with your foot. 'Okay, hit the snare.' And I just sit there looking at him and I'm just shaking. And he goes, 'Hit the snare - can you hear me?' And I go 'Yeah...' Then I sat down really quietly into the microphone and whisper, 'Which one is the snare?' And everyone just starts laughing. I just wanted to die."

A historic concert!

NOTE: For original fans, it's a hell of a long time to wait. For newcomer Babes fanatics, their reunion is an unlikely bucket-list dream come true. Kat Bjelland, Lori Barbero and Maureen Herman are back together playing live shows for the first time in 18 years. Where they once served as role models for a new generation of female musicians who would pick up instruments and teach themselves to play, the gleeful passion of their return shows proved once again that comebacks can be more than nostalgia trips.

1995 - Britpop takes the festival by storm. Foo Fighters (who formed the same year) played at the festival for the first time, marking Dave Grohl's first appearance at the festival since Kurt Cobain's suicide (full show in our blog).

1996 - The Stone Roses play for the first time without guitarist John Squire, the results are not good. The concert is often featured on lists of 'Worst Gigs of all time' (full show in our blog). The festival also experienced big problems with forged tickets.
