That Petrol Emotion - Live @ Reading University, Reading, England, 16-10-1990

NOTE: That Petrol Emotion were a Northern Irish, London-based band with a North American vocalist, Steve Mack. The band originally formed in 1984 from the ashes of the Derry Hitmakers, Bam Bam and the Calling and The Undertones. The band split amicably in 1994. On 26 March 2008, Mack announced that the band were reforming to play reunion concerts in the summer. That Petrol Emotion are now on an indefinite hiatus, though in late 2012 Gorman, McLaughlin, Kelly, and Damian O'Neill announced that they had formed a new band named The Everlasting Yeah. NOTE: Just hours before this gig, singer Kurt Cobain overdosed on heroin in his hotel and had to be revived by his friend Michael DeWitt. Cobain came around and played the gig; the audience was clueless about his near-death experience. "Everyone wanted to be at that gig," remembers the band's former UK booking agent Russell Warby. "I remember Debbie Harry called me up and tried to get on the guest list, but I couldn't fit her in."

This was the first show with Lori Goldston on cello.

This was the only show with "Big" John Duncan on second guitar. He played on "Drain You," "Tourette's," "Aneurysm," and "Very Ape."

Roseland Ballroom close its doors for good in April 2014.

NOTE: During soundcheck, a roadie stood in for Kurt. Before "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Kurt dragged about fifty fans waiting by the back gate onstage for the encore. After "Territorial Pissings," Dave announced, "Tonight, Brendan and I are going to leave you with a dance beat," then launched into a drum jam along with Teenage Fanclub's drummer Brendan O'Hare. Teenage Fanclub also performed.

21th anniversary Kurt Cobain's death and 13th anniversary Layne Staley death

21th anniversary of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's death

Cobain was 27 when he took his own life on 5 April 1994 in the garage of his home in Seattle, Washington. Despite the strong association of the grunge icon with Seattle, Cobain only lived in that city for 18 months.

The place where he spent most of his life is Aberdeen, a small logging town about 100 miles (160km) south-west of Seattle where he was born in 1967.

For most of the 90s, Cobain and Nirvana had helped identify Seattle in the American imagination. The obligatory flannel shirts, the angst under overcast skies, the punk-inspired rage.

Today also marks the 13th anniversary of Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley death

Layne Staley began showing an interest in music when he was just 12 years old. In his teens, he was playing with small time glam bands, and wondering if he was cut out for vocals. It was not until 1985 when he met Johnny Bacolas and James Bergstrom that Sleze was created--his first band. A year later, with the addition of Nick Pollack, Alice N Chains was formed, with their own brand of 'glam rock and speed metal.' After several splits and reformations, the final lineup was established in 1987. The band was name was changed to Alice In Chains and consisted of Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, and Mike Starr.
